Cruise News - Viking River Cruises in Europe
April 28 - 2010 : VIKING INTRODUCES NEW EUROPE ITINERARY FOR 2011 as
11-Day Itinerary Sails the Danube through Eastern Europe
In conjunction with the launch of its 2011 River Cruise Atlas™, Viking River Cruises, the world’s leading river cruise line, announced the introduction of a brand-new itinerary along the Danube River in Eastern Europe.
The Passage to Eastern Europe itinerary features an 8-day cruise along the scenic Danube River with stops in five different Eastern European countries—Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania—plus 2 nights in Budapest and 1 night in Bucharest.
“The idea behind this itinerary is to immerse our guests in the history, culture and exciting cities of this very special region of Europe,” said Richard Marnell, Viking’s senior vice president of marketing. “While similar to our very popular and often-sold-out Eastern European Odyssey, this itinerary is shorter, offering more time in each of the ports. Plus, we have bookended the cruise with hotel stays in Budapest and Bucharest, giving our guests the chance to enjoy the tours but also do additional exploring on their own.”
During the 11-day itinerary, guests will visit three major Eastern European capitals—Budapest (Hungary), Bratislava (Slovakia) and Bucharest (Romania)—in addition to quaint villages and riverside towns. Highlights during the itinerary are sailing amidst the natural wonders of the Danube River’s Iron Gate region, touring the rocks of Belgradchik, seeing the Roman ruins at Viminacium and experiencing the region’s vibrant culture, as experienced in a Puszta horsemanship performance. To further enhance the trip, a variety of lectures including two on the Balkan conflict from the standpoint of two Serbian and Croatian lecturers, have been added as a part of Viking’s signature Culture CurriculumSM program.
The Passage to Eastern Europe itinerary is available March through November aboard the deluxe Viking Primadonna, which has balcony staterooms on both the Upper and Middle decks. All-inclusive pricing, starting at $2,156 per person, reflects the 2011 Early Booking Discount of 2-for-1 cruise and land pricing. If guests act by May 28, 2010, they can also save $1,000 per couple on all-inclusive roundtrip international air and transfers, and also receive complimentary wine with dinner on board. To extend their European vacation, guests can add one or both of the Explore More™ land extension programs visiting Transylvania and the Black Sea or Vienna; both are 3-night programs.
