October 26 - 2012 : New Cruise Ships for Holland America Line and Carnival
A memorandum of agreement has been signed with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri for the construction of a 2,660-passenger ship for Holland America Line scheduled for delivery in fall 2015 and a 4,000-passenger ship for Carnival Cruise Lines scheduled for delivery in winter 2016. The total cost for the two vessels combined, which includes the U.S. dollar denominated contract price and all owner’s costs, will be approximately $195,000 per lower berth. The memorandum of agreement is subject to customary closing conditions, including execution of shipbuilding contracts and financing.

October 21 - 2012 : Silversea Cruises second expedition ship set to sail as "Silver Galapagos"
Luxury expedition cruise specialist Silversea has announced Silver Galapagos as the name for its second small-sized expedition ship, which is currently sailing as the Galapagos Explorer II.
The new name signals the company's intent to maintain a consistent level of elegance throughout its fleet, and will take effect after the all-suite, 100-guest vessel undergoes a major refurbishment in September 2013. In a related move, the hull of the Galapagos Explorer II has already been painted the same dark blue as Silver Explorer, the company's other expedition ship.

October 17 - 2012 : Safe Heights for Cruise Ship Railings
The International Cruise Victims Association, Inc. (ICV), constantly working to increase the safety of cruise passengers against crime on cruise ships, is now also concentrating on the general safety of cruise passengers by tackling the issue of the safe heights of cruise ship railings.
The recommendation of the ICV has always been that the railing height on cruise ships be raised to 54 inches to deter people from going overboard.

October 9 - 2012 : American Queen Steamboat Company Announces

The American Queen Steamboat Company in Tennessee has today announced the re-launch of the Paddlewheel Steamboating Society of America loyalty program, which has been re-established to welcome and recognize steamboaters in special ways throughout the year.

October 04 - 2012 : SeaDream Yacht Club Set to Sail in Asia
Much to the excitement of the line’s fans SeaDream Yacht Club has announced a series of voyages in Asia and Northern Australia beginning in late 2013.
One of its twin mega-yachts, SeaDream II will sail to Asia after completing her 2013 Mediterranean season.

October 02 - 2012 : NEW Norwegian Getaway, to be delivered in late January 2014, earlier than originally scheduled, set to sail year-round in the Eastern Caribbean.
Three months earlier than scheduled, the brand new Norwegian Getaway with Norwegian Cruise Line will be delivered in late January 2014, to sail in the Eastern Caribbean (from Port Miami ) year-round.
