Every Maine windjammer captain offers specialty cruises – it’s the chance to combine great sailing with great passion. This month, The Maine Windjammer Association highlights a few of the 2013 specialty cruises offered by the American Eagle and the Victory Chimes.
American Eagle
The last fishing schooner built in Gloucester, Massachusetts., the American Eagle now takes guests on relaxing cruises along the coast of Maine.
Windjammer Days - June 23 - 29
Enjoying this fifty-year tradition in Boothbay Harbor, participants on this cruise get to see all the schooners, enjoy a real “downeast” shore dinner, a parade of sail, fireworks and enjoy a full day’s sail back to Penobscot Bay afterwards.
Lighthouse Cruise - July 7 - 13
This six-night adventure pays attention to historic lighthouses and is topped off with a fleetwide sail parade around the Rockland Breakwater Light Friday afternoon.
Sailing Adventure – with Whales! July 28 - August 3
This is a six-night cruise with the sole purpose of putting the schooner through her paces and taking advantage of warm summer breezes. Included is spending a day off shore looking for whales and exploring a new pristine island. This is a real break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Victory Chimes
The Victory Chimes is the only three-masted schooner in the fleet. She’s roomy, elegant and a National Historic Landmark.
Geology Cruise – Aug 16 - 20For those who love land formations and glacial remnants, this trip showcases the landscape and how it was formed ,with Joseph and Alice Kelly, University of Maine geologists.
Story-telling and Maine Humor Cruise – July 14 - 18
Gary Crocker, the Maine story teller and humorist, joins the crew and provides a few belly laughs!
Irish Music Cruise – July 24 - 28
Back by popular demand, the Victory Chimes is re-offering a special Irish Music Cruise also taking in gorgeous landscape along with the Irish music.
